RawY2K is a browser extension designed to apply a nostalgic, early-2000s visual theme to modern websites. Your privacy and security are our highest priorities. This policy outlines exactly how your data is handled.
Zero-Dependency & Security
RawY2K is built on a Zero-Dependency Architecture. This means all visual assets (custom cursors, retro fonts) and audio engines (Web Audio API synthesizers) are hardcoded directly into the extension. The extension never makes background network requests to download media, images, or tracking scripts from third-party servers.
Data We Collect
We do NOT collect, transmit, or sell any personal browsing data.
The extension operates entirely locally on your device. It uses Chrome's built-in secure storage APIs to save:
- Your preferences (e.g., whether Y2K mode, music, or specific widgets are turned on).
- Your VIP module configurations (custom cursor selection, custom marquee text).
- A local visitor hit counter number (for the retro odometer display).
- Session-only flags (e.g., tracking if you already dismissed a popup ad during the current browsing session).
Data We Do NOT Collect
- Browsing history or URLs visited.
- Passwords, keystrokes, or form data.
- Analytics, telemetry, or tracking data.
- Any data sent to external servers owned by RawY2K.
Permissions Explained
To function as a "Time Machine" for the web, RawY2K requests the following minimal permissions:
- storage — Required to save your extension settings and hit counter locally on your device.
- activeTab & <all_urls> — Required to dynamically inject the retro CSS styles and UI widgets onto the pages you visit. (The extension only modifies visual rendering; it does not read, store, or steal page content).
- notifications — Used strictly to alert you when your VIP status is successfully unlocked or when extension settings are modified via hotkeys.
- sidePanel — Allows the extension interface to be docked in your browser's side panel for easier access.
Third-Party Services (Payments)
If you choose to upgrade to the VIP/PRO tier, payment processing and license verification are handled securely by ExtensionPay (https://extensionpay.com).
RawY2K does not have access to your credit card information, billing address, or exact identity. We only receive a secure cryptographic token confirming whether your browser session has an active paid license.
Children's Privacy
This extension is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any personal information from users of any age.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy if the extension's architecture changes (e.g., adding new features that require different permissions). The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the latest revision.
